Rupert, Tanzanian street dog, est. 4 years old
had a very bad start to his life, he was seriously malnourished, neglected and most likely abused. He was rescued by a local vet . He had jaundice and never gained weight in the shelter where he was being house. He was always the weakest dog in the pack unable to defend himself.
His recover is taking time, it's been about a year that he is with his new family. He has gained weight and is slowly learning how to be a dog again. He started barking, chasing monkeys and protecting his house. These are all behaviours that Rupert never showed before. However, recently with the rainy season and frequent storms, he appears to have regressed by becoming very nervous and gets spooked very easily even just with a slight touch. On the day that I'm writing this information his eye became quite bloody and the dog seems very sad.

Vin, Wire-haired Vizla, 17 months old
Recurrent ear infections to the point he has had to be put under anaesthetic to have his ear cleaned. Started around 4 months old and has been on and off every couple of months. He has previously been treated with canaural ear drops until it was really bad in December 22 where he had to have an ear wash under anaesthetic.
He’s almost always on and off had small crusty like scabs in his skin. In January he had a flare up of his skin around his groin area. It was weeping and red. Took him to the vet who prescribed prednisolone and a bath was and skin foam. He’s not on any medication at the moment apart from the odd drop of zymox, the one with hydrocortisone.

He is very noise sensitive and hates loud noises such as motorbikes, lorries and fireworks. He had his ears and tail cut in Bosnia apparently this is something they do to make the breed look more like bears whilst watching the herds in the fields. he may be a bit blind in his left eye because he seems to get a fright more when things come at him from that side. in his own country Bosnia and was chased away and had things thrown at him. A hunter had also been hired to kill him which is why a rescue centre picked him up. Been in the UK for 2.5 years.

Surya, Age: 11 years
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Medications: none at the moment
Duration of condition: we think it started 6 years ago, but it got really bad in 2022 (1 year ago)
I think the problems started back in 2017 with an ear infection after our holiday in Germany. The ear infection was treated with medication from the vet. It was resolved then, but came back, several times. In 2020 the real misery started with another ear infection (pseudomonas bacteria). It took 6 months of treatment with a lot of medication. I don’t recall exactly when, but at some point, she started having trouble with her stools – sometimes it was good, other times loose or diarrhoea, she was eating grass, pooh from other dogs and she wanted to eat branches and bark from a Birch tree in our garden. We consulted a holistic vet and embarked on a journey of detoxification and strengthening Surya’s immune system to which she responded quite well, but she continued having problems with her digestive system.
In May 2022 Surya injured the wrist of her left front leg, which resulted in a swelling. We went to see the vet, got some new medication to which Surya responded very badly – throwing up and diarrhoea with blood. We had to go to an emergency vet in the evening, got other medication to stop the diarrhoea, the throwing up and potential nausea. One thing led to another, and we ended up with a completely messed-up dog who could not eat properly anymore, throwing up immediately after eating.
In August 2022 we had her checked thoroughly (blood tests, X-ray) and even had a gastroscopy done in a specialised clinic. Fortunately, no major issues such as cancer or an ulcer. There wasn’t much else we could do other than an adjusted diet, smaller portions multiple times a day to try and prevent the throwing up – all about dealing with symptoms and not getting to the root cause of what was going on with our girl. During this time, I was already doing the IMIM course so, although I found it very scary because Surya had already gone through so much, I decided to try and help her with self-medication. However, whatever I tried, I never got very far with Surya. She loses interest very quickly and then walks away. Surya is doing relatively well now. In general, she responds well to the diet and the frequent (4x) smaller portions throughout the day, and although her stools are better, it is still loose at times and occasionally she still throws up. So, she is doing way better than last year, but the balance is very delicate and goes off rail easily. I wish I could help her more through self-medication.

EPA&DHA Omega 3, cassis bud, CBD
Posterior pain (?) : patella dislocation
Back pain (?) : neuro sur Hery to remove cysts on the spinal cord on February 2022 after one year of research of whats going on
=> medical pin on the back still present
Gasps and looks for her place in the evening / night (not everyday)
Her condition deteriorated for a year and I searched what she had with a dozen différent professionals. Her legs were starting to paralyze, she was wearing shoes so she wouldn't hurt herself, and she had neuropathic pain. When we did the scan, the vets wanted to give her gabapentin. I didn't want it unless I saw her really badly. I operated 2 weeks later, she was in pain even with Tralieve but essential oils helped us at night.
She runs again after her ball, her passion in life.

1. Very stressed in the car. Panting, shaking. Tried every single counter conditioning thing under the sun - just can't crack it.
2. Sensitive to other things I think related to her domestic violence background. Gets highly upset when I cry, when there's a loud bang, alarms terrify her, I once had a nose bleed and it seemed to trigger something in her and she ran under the bed.
